Tha Sleepwalkers Tries A Little Tenderness

Tha Sleepwalkers is not a group, he wants you to know. He’s a solo artist that goes by that name – one that makes you think he’s a group. Confused? That may be his goal – to keep you guessing – because he knows you’re expecting a certain sound when you listen to hip hop but what he gives you is something a little different. Sure, the core elements of hip hop are there – pounding beats and a sometimes dark, sometimes sexy mood – but the music contained in Tha Sleepwalkers’ new mixtape Sub-Conscience can also be melodic. The beats are relentless and the lyrical content surprising.

Take the single She Looka Good, for example. It’s a love song, one the artist coyly admits he wrote about a certain female rapper who remains nameless. With a hook that might make you set it on repeat on your iPod, it gives you something you don’t often get from a hip hop loves song – less macho bravado and a little more tenderness. And, just like the artist’s name, the other songs on his new mixtape are equally surprising.

Aggressive and melodic throughout, Sub-Conscience by Tha Sleepwalkers has to be heard to be believed. Grab it for yourself free right here. Download She Looka Good below.
