Karen Owen Turns The Tables

The net has been burning with the scandalous mock-thesis written by Duke University graduate Karen Owen titled “Excelling Beyond The Classroom: An Education In The Realm Of Horizontal Academics.”  In it, Ms.  Owen reveals 13 of her lovers, rating them on the basis of physical attractiveness, sexual skills and creativity, aggressiveness, humor, athletic ability and,  yes, on “the length and girth of the subjects’ hardware.”  Is this how young women today really think about sex? It’s a question guys might not want to hear answered, if this “senior thesis”  is any indication.

The PowerPoint presentation includes a bar chart showing the overall rankings of her sexual conquests and photos of the men in question and is now a viral sensation online.

“Men have engaged in this sort of behavior for time immemorial,” says Dr. Ian Kerner, the author of “She Comes First.” Now here is a woman who feels empowered to rate and rank men in much the same way. It’s giving men a dose of their own medicine.”

The author told Jezebel Magazine that she never intended for the presentation to go beyond the three friends she sent it to in May, but that recently one friend (who has since admitted to it) forwarded it to another, and it went viral. It has since been sent to multiple listservs, including fraternity listservs. She pointed out that frats make lists like this all the time.

“The people that are named in it are the kinds of people that everyone wants to be or be with,” Ownes said. “The top dogs, or whatever.”

Scandalouswomen agrees with Jezebel Magazine’s assessment. We’re not condoning putting any of these sorts of things in writing or within range of the Internet, especially when using the real names of your partners. But you know what? Here’s another reminder that women can be as aggressive about sex as men can. And there’s nothing wrong with that, as long as all parties are consenting. For that reason, Karen Owen loses a few points but still gets a cautious  Scandalouswomen stamp of approval!

  1. This is beyond scandalous! Yep, guys have been doing this kind of thing for years but I can’t imagine a woman doing it in our mother’s generation. I do feel a little bad the guys were exposed like that but I’ve heard they were all players anyway. Overall, I think this is wickedly awesome. I can think of several guys at my school who’d deserve this, too.

  2. This is very interesting and fascinating to read each of the guys who had been subjects of this. Some of it was pretty funny. Women are not usually that verbal about their conquests, but it is about time someone broke the mold. 🙂

  3. I think her thesis is fabulous! If more women were open about how men really measure up, we could rule the world. Just think of the political implications. Would YOU vote for someone who was bad in bed, or had “substandard length and girth?” Admitting right now that I wouldn’t…
