We were first introduced to Janna back in January, an artist similar to Lady Gaga in that she’s combining elements of rock, soul, and dance into her theatrical live performances. With a voice reminiscent of Basia, she’s currently promoting Key Change, concept album that pays homage to the keyboard instrument. In it, we hear everything from harpsichord to synthesizer. Each song features a different one, like the Wurlitzer, and allows Janna to show how pop music has progressed with the keyboard.
Her latest single, Favorite Customer, is a piece that seemingly questions her role in a relationship – something we’ve all been through. The message is this: When we’re together, you treat me like a queen, like I’m your favorite girl. But when we’re apart, are you doing the same to someone else? In the video, this is illustrated with a hospital setting and medical staff treating the singer. She’s asking, ‘you’re taking such great care of me, but am I really special?” The medical scenario may have darker undertones as well. Is the implication our insecurities are weakening us and we need some type of treatment for them?
The song itself has a 90s pop feminist vibe, mid-tempo and perfect for radio. Check out the video below.
