Some of the more talented and innovative music makers today aren’t heard on the radio or in clubs and bars. They’re crafting tunes for movies and TV. “Cinematic Sound Design” is how Simon Petkovic, aka Dusty Fungus, describes his style of experimental electronica. Hypnotic and rhythmic, his EP Intonarumori is a collection of down-tempo dubstep that is instantly appealing.
“I create idiosyncratic sounds and musical compositions for animation, film, performance, dance, interactive media and broadcast,” Petkovic says of his music. “I compose my music by drawing from my ongoing connection with ambiance, soundscapes and waveforms that speak directly to our senses.”
Yep! I couldn’t have said it better. Listening to the tracks on Intonarumori really is a music journey into an orgasm of sounds, often riding an ever intense crescendo until climax. Listen to ‘The Anthropic Principle’ for a prime example. For something truly dramatic – almost eerie – wrap your ears around Aphorisms & Interludes. One part Evanescence, one part Hollywood supernatural thriller, this tune might be best enjoyed with some mood altering substances. Each track on the EP is a special concoction of sounds and moods.
